Busy Weekend

Posted in Personal at 9:20 pm by Abbas

I will be extremely busy this weekend. It is going to be nuts. I got two computing projects due soon, a genetic engineering lab report, and finals coming up! I will become a hermit and a hamster. I will seclude myself and be up all night. On a brighter note I got 20 more days ’til I graduate!

Rachel Corrie was born in Washington, killed in the Gaza Strip, praised in London and censored in Manhattan.

Now she’s being forced to go underground in Toronto.

My Name Is Rachel Corrie is a play based on the life and words of the 23-year-old American activist who died in Gaza on March 16, 2003, after an incident involving an Israeli Defence Forces bulldozer.

Corrie’s supporters claim she was run over deliberately during the course of a peaceful political demonstration. Those on the opposing side insist the bulldozer driver couldn’t see her and it was simply an accident.

The New York production of the play was recently cancelled, because of fears that its pro-Palestinian stance would upset the Jewish community at a difficult political time.

Charity Wristbands

Children
“Verily this ummah is your ummah, ONE NATION, ONE UMMAH. And I am your Lord. Therefore worship me.”
-
Surah Al Anbiya, Aayat 92

———————————————————————

I think we all should invest our $5.55 on these simple wrist bands. It is was initially a project for our community in Long Island, but we have gotten a huge response and we have gone international.

I personally thought this project was not going to leave New York. I was like black wrist bands that say “Karbala and One Nation? No one is going to buy ‘em except us!”

Lo and behold, people all the way from Europe have been buying ‘em! The best thing about the bands is that all the profit, including every penny, will go to the poor orphans in Iraq that have been victims to sectarian violence. Both Muslims, and non-Muslims have ordered the wrist bands. You should definately order if you haven’t done so.. and if you have order again! If not for yourself, then for humanity.

Moving

Posted in Personal at 1:46 pm by Abbas

I never knew moving could be so difficult and irritating. In the past year and a half I have went through 5 different roomates. I was living by myself in a two bed room apartment. It was good but the rent was not. It took me all day! I was finished around 1am. Also note I had classes ’till 8pm, which made it even more difficult. Anyway, packing and moving the actual stuff was not tough; it was the trying to sort out and get rid of the stuff that I had no idea whom it belonged to! I discovered pillows, blankets, lamps, desks, and tables that I never knew I had. Gave most of it away to those whom needed it and took a few stuff with me hoping someone would claim it. I don’t know. Two of my roomates moved overseas. One moved to Iraq and the other … I think moved to India. Actually, I am not sure where he is. He just never came back after one summer. Anyway, now I have moved from my apartment into an on-campus apartment. I feel like I am in the ghetto now… but alhamdulillah, I am alive and I have a place to stay!
