How Weak We Really Are
Why must people base their decisions on what other people do or think? For example, “Person X is going to do his pHd next year! you will be the only one left behind!…” Why do we care if Person X is going do their pHd or not? Or “Person X already has a degree, he/she is going to think your slow if you do not get it by next year.” Shouldn’t we be saying, “mashaAllah, good for him/her.” I do not find it neccessary to compare oneself with others or use others in order to justify an action. To me, it just reflects how weak we really are. We should do what we do for ourselves and not be slaves to others. Just a thought that has been bothering me for the past couple of weeks. To those who tend to do that, please mature up and wake up… Allah knows best.

people are sheep. they want to be like others, and if you are not careful, they will turn you into a sheep too. people are too busy watching everyone else’s business, they have no time to think for themselves. what’s even sadder, is people who base their decisions on a name or status, and will do it at the expense of their own happiness. For some, status is more important than freedom and happiness and they will do anything to please other sheep who can’t be pleased to begin with… because these people don’t want the best for you anyway, they secretly wish that you wind up a miserable failure. and yet, some people would sacrifice control over their own lives for precisely those who have the worst of intentions.

What if it’s not US that is doing the comparing with others, but others who are comparing us with others? Too much social pressure to conform to the idea of what an intellectual is, etc. In Desi society especially, “So and so is a doctor, blah blah.” I’m not in med school so apparently I’m not as good as my sibling

agree with what you’re saying but your call for maturity and “waking up” is falling on deaf ears.
people dont play the comparison game coz they’re immature or half asleep. they do it coz they’re always in tow of the other person. its hasad… i believe.
